The Body (Nave) of the Church
St James’s is a grand and spacious building, maintained in very good order, with excellent facilities for meetings, rehearsals, recordings and public performances.
The body of the Church enjoys underfloor heating, and seats 300 people quite comfortably. Seating is arranged around a large and well-lit raised sanctuary. This sanctuary serves excellently as a stage and can accommodate an orchestra of up to 80 players.
The warm but not too generous acoustic is excellent for choirs and smaller ensembles, and although the Church is large, it is arranged in such a way that makes the relationship between performers and audience quite intimate. St James’s is a very good venue for recordings.
The Coffee Cloister
At the back of the Church there is suite of modern loos and fitted kitchen, and a large open space for serving refreshments.
The Music Vestry & Memorial Chapel
For smaller groups, there is also the Music Vestry & Memorial Chapel. These are smaller spaces. The Music Vestry is suited to a group of 6 people, and the Memorial Chapel to groups of about 30.
The Grand Piano
Come and enjoy St James’s new Steinway Boston Concert Grand Piano! First introduced to the musical world in 1992, The Boston piano is synonymous with everything you would expect from a Steinway piano and features numerous original Steinway patents and classical Steinway characteristics.
Free of all plastics and substitute materials commonly found in pianos today the unique Steinway-designed action assures that nothing is lost in translation from fingertips to keys, to hammers, to strings.
Use of the grand piano costs an additional £75
Our beautiful front Te Deum window has been extensively vandalised and has been boarded up for safety reasons. Work is progressing and it should be back to its former glorious state in the near future.
