The Newman & Regent factory is one of the earliest large boot and shoe factories in Kettering, Northamptonshire. Influenced by Italianate architecture, the building stands as one of the most stylish factories in the town, no doubt recalling the splendid Manfield factory in Northampton of 1857 (demolished 1982). Our factory is one of the earliest boot and shoe factories to survive still producing footwear and thus retaining the traditional interior.
The finely detailed factory remains largely unaltered, with a carefully crafted, homogeneous facade that clearly identifies it as an industrial building. Yet, its design seamlessly integrates with the surrounding terraced houses on either side and across the street. The original ‘N’ keystone dating back to the buildings original owners ‘Newmans & Sons’ is still preserved above the entrance doorway, and fine history soaked details can be found throughout the factory's interior.
The interior and set-up of our live working shoe factory continues to merge rustic, traditional shoe making tools and machinery with a few modern processes, blending the best of technology and skilled craftsmanship that’s a real step back in time to experience.
